Joe McCann Shutters Asymmetric Liquid Fund Amid Crypto Strategy Shift
Joe McCann is winding down Asymmetric's Liquid Alpha Fund following a period of underperformance and online criticism. The crypto investor cited changing market conditions and a strategic pivot toward long-term blockchain infrastructure investments as key reasons for the closure. "The strategy behind the Liquid Alpha Fund clearly is no longer serving our LPs," McCann stated in a social media post.
Unconfirmed reports suggested the fund had lost 78% of its value this year, though McCann disputed these claims. He pointed to an upcoming Hyperliquid airdrop as a potential source of "extraordinary" returns. The decision coincides with a broader decline in crypto market volatility, with the Crypto Volatility Index (CVI) dropping nearly 30% over the past year.
Investors have been offered early redemption options or the choice to transfer capital into a new illiquid vehicle. "Our job is to adapt with discipline and build for what's next," McCann wrote, emphasizing the firm's diversified investment structure.
